EMBEDDED THERAPIST

Embedded Therapist

The College of Education has partnered with the Counseling Center and Division of Student Life to launch an Embedded Therapist initiative to offer counseling services to students. The Embedded Therapist (ET) is housed directly within the College of Education and acts as a liaison between the College and the Counseling Center.

Services provided by ETs are confidential as part of the Counseling Center’s offerings. Students can check the ET’s appointment availability and schedule counseling sessions by calling the Counseling Center directly or scheduling online. The Counseling Center also provides all student services described below and at times may be the quicker option for students to receive help.

We are excited to introduce Brodrick Williams, MA, LPC, NCC, as the licensed therapist embedded directly within the College of Education community.

Services offered

Single-Session Appointments

Students can schedule single-session "drop-in" appointments free of charge through the online scheduling (using the button below) or by contacting the Counseling Center at 205-348-3863. These appointments are one-time phone consultations that last roughly 25 minutes and are free of charge. The Embedded Therapist can offer help by exploring current concerns, providing brief interventions and advice, and by helping determine what Counseling Center resources best fit the student’s needs.

Our embedded licensed therapist Brodrick Williams is available for single-session appointments Mondays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. These sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brief Individual Counseling

Individual counseling sessions are provided through a brief-treatment and goal-oriented model. Students can schedule an appointment by contacting the Counseling Center directly at 205-348-3863.

Referrals

The Embedded Therapist acts as a bridge between our students and the Counseling Center by providing referrals and connecting students to those resources as needed. They also aid students in finding referrals for other resources both on campus and in the community.

Screening

Students can schedule a screening appointment to initiate further individual treatment by contacting the Counseling Center at 205-348-3863.

Crisis Intervention

Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis should be directed to the Counseling Center.

A mental health crisis can be defined as:

  • A serious or severe traumatic experience or loss
  • Serious mental illness, such as delusions, hallucinations or disorientation
  • Lack of access to basic needs, such as food or housing

*If you are experiencing a crisis, please call 205-348-3863 and ask to speak with a counselor immediately (205-348-5454 after hours and on weekends). You are welcome, if able, to walk into the main Counseling Center, located at Suite 3000 South Lawn Office Building, 1101 Jackson Ave., Tuscaloosa, AL 35487, any time during business hours. Inform the front office staff you are in crisis and need to speak to the counselor on duty.
