BIOGRAPHY
Latrise P. Johnson works as an Associate Professor of Secondary English Language Arts and Literacy in Curriculum and Instruction Department. Her scholarship considers the educational experiences of Black and LGBTQIA youth in secondary schools. She focuses on the ways historically marginalized youth use literacy (writing) to name and claim world(s) in order to experience joy and justice. Latrise is a former middle and high school teacher who seeks to engage young people in critical thinking and being within intellectual communities in, outside, and on the edge of school.
Latrise P. Johnson is writer, scholar, mother, teacher, and intellectual. Before joining the faculty at UA, Dr. Johnson taught middle and high school Language and Literature in Atlanta Public Schools. Dr. Johnson enjoys learning new things and is currently learning French and how to swim. She is a certified yoga instructor and practices with friends and family. She enjoys listening to music and is known to have a portable speaker nearby. She also writing and helping others find their writer within.
