BIOGRAPHY
Ryan Hynes is the head coach of the women’s wheelchair basketball team at the University of Alabama. His journey at UA began as a player for the men’s team in 2009, and he has been a staff member since 2016. He earned his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Sport Hospitality from UA. As a player, he was part of the men’s team that won its first championship in 2013. After teaching in the Tuscaloosa County school system for a few years, he transitioned into coaching, starting as the men’s assistant coach in 2016. He was in that position when the men’s team won the national championship in 2018.
The following year, Hynes became the head coach of the women’s wheelchair basketball team and has since led them to five national championships. He has also gained experience on the international stage over the past two years, serving as an assistant coach for Team USA’s women’s wheelchair basketball team, which recently earned silver at the Paris Paralympics. Additionally, Hynes was the head coach for the women’s U-25 Team USA, which won gold at the 2023 World Championships in Thailand. He considers himself fortunate to have been part of seven national championships at UA, either as a player or a coach. Roll Tide!
