R. J. Thurman

BIOGRAPHY

RJ Thurman has lived in T-Town her entire life. She is married, has three children, and two dogs. RJ has been working at The University of Alabama since April 2015 in various roles, each providing her with invaluable experience that she has carried forward. Currently, she works in the Office of Financial Affairs as an Accounting Assistant. In this role, once a grant is established, she ensures that everyone in her assigned departments with a grant stay on track and assists faculty with all aspects of their grants until they close out.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, both from The University of Alabama. During the three years it took to earn her master’s degree, she had two children, worked full-time, and navigated the challenges of a pandemic—working from home while taking care of an 8-month-old and being pregnant. When asked if it was worth it, her response is a resounding “absolutely.” Would she do it again? “Absolutely not.”

While RJ has a strong love for Alabama football, her heart belongs even more to the Green Bay Packers. she grew up watching the Packers with her dad, a Bart Starr fan, and vividly remembers their victory in the 1997 Super Bowl (though she prefers not to think about how that might reveal her age). Since then, she has been a dedicated fan.
