BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Stacy Hughey Surman is a Clinical Associate Professor of Educational Research in the Department of Educational Studies in Psychology, Research Methodology & Counseling in the College of Education, at The University of Alabama. Dr. Surman is the Program Coordinator for Educational Research and the chair of the Academic Issues Committee for the College of Education. She is also a Faculty Senator for the College and as co-chair for the Faculty Life Committee, is part of the Faculty Senate Steering Committee. Dr. Surman teaches in the area of Educational Research and is currently teaching courses focused on classroom and large-scale assessment, data-driven instructional decision making, psychometrics, research methodology, survey research methods, evaluation, and statistics. She is currently serving as co-principal investigator for Project IntegratED, a project of the World Design Organization and the Alabama Arts Alliance. She has served as program director and supervisor for several large state and federal grants, specializing in evaluation and data management and analysis. Dr. Surman serves as the chair of the Southeastern Universities Graduate Research Symposium (SUGRS), a regional event open to all graduate students and faculty. Her research agenda is focused on teacher self-efficacy, classroom assessment development and use, and most recently, the implications of arts education in public schools on the surrounding community in terms of academic and socio-cultural outcomes.
