BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Michael L. Sulkowski is an associate professor in the School Psychology Program at the University of Alabama. He is the co-author of Leadership for Safe Schools: The Three-Pillar Approach to Supporting the Mental Health of Students, Creating Safe Schools and Fostering Studentsâ Mental Health, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in K-12 Schools: A Practitionerâs Workbook, First and Second Editions. Dr. Sulkowski also has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Sulkowskiâs research focuses on school safety and violence prevention; fostering student mental health; supporting at-risk, vulnerable, and marginalized students; social support and connectedness; and using evidence-based interventions in school settings. He is an editorial board member for the Journal of School Psychology, School Psychology, School Psychology Review, and the International Journal of School and Educational Psychology. Dr. Sulkowski also is a Contributing Editor for the NASP CommuniquĂ©.
Dr. Sulkowski has chaired 10 dissertations and has served as a dissertation committee member for over 20 dissertations. He teaches classes on professional issues and ethics in school psychology, consultation and supervision, behavior interventions, and various didactic sections of internship and advanced doctoral practicum. Dr. Sulkowski is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.
Teaching philosophy
Dr. Sulkowski’s teaching philosophy is student-centered and informed by a constructivist and culturally responsive framework. He aspires to meet students where they are in their academic, professional, and personal development. He believes that all students enter graduate school with different backgrounds and a wealth of experiences that can be tapped into to facilitate their healthy growth and professional success.
