RESEARCH INTERESTS
Eric Hernandez’s research focuses on the intersection of educational neuroscience, psychology, and data analytics. He is particularly interested in how brain-based mechanisms such as attention, memory, and executive function influence teaching and learning, and how these processes can inform the design of effective learning environments. His work also examines the role of diverse cultural and cognitive backgrounds in shaping student learning experiences, with an emphasis on using behavioral science and quantitative methods to identify strategies that promote engagement, retention, and academic success. Ultimately, his research seeks to translate findings from neuroscience and psychology into evidence-based practices that improve instruction and support student development.

BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Eric Hernandez is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Educational Neuroscience at The University of Alabama, where he teaches courses in Educational Neuroscience and Educational Psychology. With a multidisciplinary background bridging psychology, data analytics, and STEM education, Dr. Hernandez brings a unique, research-informed approach to the classroom.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Lamar University and earned a master’s degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. He completed his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on STEM education at UH-Clear Lake.
Before joining The University of Alabama, Dr. Hernandez taught psychology at several institutions including Lamar State College – Port Arthur, Lee College, and Lamar State College – Orange, Lamar Institute of Technology, and The University of Houston – Downtown.
Dr. Hernandez’s academic interests lie in the intersection of neuroscience, psychology, and education, with a particular focus on how cognitive and behavioral science can inform effective teaching practices. His work is dedicated to improving student outcomes through research-based instructional strategies and inclusive pedagogy.
