BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Smith is the Assistant Director of the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) at The University of Alabama. Lisa began her career at AMSTI-UA in 2006 as an Education Specialist. As the program in the region expanded, her concentration moved to K-5 Science Specialist and then to part-time Assistant Director. She has presented nationally at NSTA (San Francisco) and multiple times at ASTA.
She has also served as the Early Childhood Director on the ASTA Executive Board. Lisa has over thirty-nine years of experience in education. Prior to AMSTI, Lisa taught gifted/talented students for twenty-one years in the Tuscaloosa City School System. During her tenure in the classroom, she was named District VII Alabama Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2000-2001.
Lisa received her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as her Master of Arts degree in Special Education – Gifted/Talented, from The University of Alabama. She enjoys spending time traveling with her family (two children and five grandchildren), scrapbooking, and volunteering at her church.
