BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Margaret Stran is a clinical associate professor in Kinesiology and associate director of the Adapted Athletics program at The University of Alabama. Her academic focus is adapted sport and disability, grant writing and leadership development. Dr. Stran’s community and outreach work is concentrated on inclusion and accessibility. Dr. Stran played and coached wheelchair basketball for 20 years. As a player, she won three national championships, a silver medal at World Championships, and bronze and silver Paralympic medals. As a coach, she helped lead her teams to three national championships and two gold medals.

Teaching philosophy

Dr. Stran’s teaching philosophy is to use a variety of teaching strategies, from flipped instruction to experiential learning, to get students to understand and grow.
