Food drive will help provide young learners in need with snack kits during school

This month, UA student group Roll Tide for Reading is hosting a food drive to provide in-school snack kits to K-12 learners who are experiencing food insecurity.

Children’s ability to succeed in school suffers when they regularly experience hunger. It not only affects their concentration, memory, and mood but impairs their motor skills as well — all of which lead to poor learning outcomes.

All food drive contributions will help support increased learning outcomes by supplying K-12 students in need with their own snack kits.

Each item collected during the drive will be used in snack kits for young learners in central Alabama communities. The complete list of requested food items, which features granola bars, fruit cups, and juice boxes, can be found here.

The food drive will run until Sept. 23 and is a collaboration between Roll Tide for Reading and the United Way of Central Alabama.
