Overview
The mission of the M.A. in Kinesiology with coursework focusing on sport pedagogy is to prepare highly skilled physical educators by expanding upon undergraduate physical education concepts and field experiences; degree completion leads to an Alabama Class A teaching certificate.

Program Requirements
GPA of 3.25 required on coursework, with no grades below C.
Required course (3 hours):
- KIN 510 Teaching/Supervising Elementary PE
Foundations of Professional Studies (6 hours):
- KIN 691 Research Studies in Socialization of Human Performance and one course from the following:
- BEF 503, BEF 507, BEF 534, BEF 575, BEF 607, BEF 650, BEF 667
Educational Research (3 hours):
- KIN 506 Techniques of Research, KIN 566 Evaluation in Physical Education, or BER 540 Statistical Methods in Education
Practicum (3 hours):
- KIN 585 Laboratory and Field Experience
Teaching Field (12 hours):
- KIN 512 PE Curriculum
- Advisor-approved 500 and/or 600 level courses in Kinesiology
Technology (3 hours):
- CAT 531 Computer-based Instructional Technology
Additional requirements/electives (6–9 hours approved by advisor):
- Thesis (6 hours)
- *SPE 500 Introduction to Exceptional Children & Youth (0–3 hours)
- *If a special education survey course was not part of the undergraduate program, or another graduate program, then SPE 500 is required.
A passing score on a comprehensive written exam covering the content of the curriculum is required and if admitted to this program, one must hold Alabama Class B teaching certification before applying for Class A certification.
