Overview
The mission of the Alternative M.A. in Kinesiology with coursework focusing on sport pedagogy is to enable students with an undergraduate degree in a non-teaching field to be highly skilled physical educators by preparing them to gain an alternative A certificate which enables them to teach physical education in the public schools.

Program Requirements
32/19 rule:
- Students cannot take more than 5 “program courses” (i.e., 500 level courses within the program) until they have taken 32 hours of undergraduate PE major’s courses with at least 19 hours at the 300 level and above.
- Students who come into the program having gained an undergraduate degree in a non-teaching field of Kinesiology such as exercise science or sport management will usually have satisfied the 32/19 rule. They can begin taking coursework in either the fall, summer, or spring.
- Students who come to the program having gained an undergraduate degree in a non-teaching field outside of Kinesiology satisfy the 32/19 rule by taking the following courses during the spring semester and the following summer with the goal of starting the program the following fall:
- KIN 365 (3 hours) offered spring and summer I
- KIN 492 (3 hours) offered spring and summer II
- KIN 362 ( 3 hours) offered summer I
- KIN 464 (3 hours) offered spring and summer I
- KIN 468 (3 hours) offered spring
- ATR 272 (1 hour) offered spring and summer I or II
- BSC 215 (4 hours) offered spring and summer I or II
- 3 of the following coaching courses: KIN 381 (offered spring), KIN 383 (offered spring), KIN 370 (offered interim), and KIN 386 (offered summer I)
- The remaining 2 hours of KIN courses would be taken during the first fall semester.
