Master of Arts

Masters students will attend classes with undergraduate students. Their coursework will be distinguished from the undergraduate work by additional research seminars in semesters 1, 2, 4, and 5. The first year seminars will comprise readings in research, and the second year will focus on action research. Graduate students will present original research at the MAP Conference in May of their graduating year.

This program is available to individuals who wish to learn how to meet the needs of all children in the classroom AND WHO:

--have an undergraduate degree in any non-education field (e.g., business, engineering, psychology, etc.) and a 3.0 graduating average. Students with at least a 2.75 average MAY be provisionally admitted to the graduate school.

--have finished their junior year in any field. After the first year in MAP, these students will graduate in education, but will not receive certification to teach AT THAT TIME. After the second year in MAP, these students COMPLETING THE PROGRAM will graduate with a Master's in Education, and WILL BE RECOMMENDED FOR Class A certification in Multiple Abilities. This program more closely resembles typical "fifth year" teaching programs.

MAP cohorts are limited in size. Application should be made in October the year BEFORE the student wishes to begin MAP.
