Bachelor of Arts
Undergraduate students who complete the Multiple Abilities Program (MAP) become certified to teach both special education and regular education at the elementary level. Students receive a Alabama Class 'B" teaching certification with endorsements in the following areas: Special education - Collaborative Teacher (SPE-CT, K-6), Elementary Education, and Early Childhood Education. Thus students who complete this program can be hired as either special education teachers or regular education teachers, grades K-6.
MAP is a 78-semester hour, five-semester program for full-time students only. MAP is unique in that students do not enroll in traditional education courses. Rather, the entire teacher-preparation curriculum is integrated and team-taught by special and regular education faculty and special and regular elementary teachers.
