
Department of Curriculum and Instruction (Program in Secondary Social Studies)
Position: Assistant Professor of Secondary Social Studies Education (Tenure Track)
Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in social studies education or curriculum and
instruction with a specialization in social studies
• At least 2 years of teaching experience at grades 7-12
• Ability to pursue a research agenda and external funding
• Ability to teach courses in social studies methods and curriculum
and instruction
• Ability to work collaboratively with Arts and Sciences faculty
• Ability to teach with a multicultural perspective
• Ability to prepare students to teach in diverse settings
• Ability to integrate technology into instruction
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to teach courses in cultural studies and multicultural
education preferred
• Bilingualism preferred
• Experience and interest in undergraduate teacher education preferred
• Knowledge of distance education, Web-assisted, and other alternative
delivery models preferred
Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in social studies and
curriculum and instruction
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students
• Direct student research, theses, and dissertations
• Maintain an active research/publication record and pursue external
funding
• Coordinate and supervise practicum and internship experiences
• Collaborate with Professional Development Schools
• Collaborate in ongoing development of innovative undergraduate
and graduate programs
• Provide service within the University, to state and local educational
agencies, and to related professional organizations
