Technology
Technology is integrated into all programs and courses, and candidates are required to demonstrate competence in through a variety of projects and experiences. Programs have been implemented to bridge the gaps of inservice and teacher candidate technology use and equipment access. For example, the Master Technology Teacher (MTT) and Technology on Wheels (TOW) have received enthusiastic support from all stakeholders, faculty, students, inservice teachers, and administrators. Additionally, the unit has a Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) that provides guidance and input to the unit in many areas of technology, including technology planning, faculty development, and acquisition of hardware and software.
The unit takes a comprehensive approach through well-maintained computer labs, multi-media classrooms, portable units, wireless access, and support at the Professional Development Schools (PDS). Several faculty members have received grants that further enable them to integrate technology and to use effective practices. The unit has a close relationship with the UA Faculty Resource Center which provides training in emerging technologies.
Additionally, the unit sponsors technology-training workshops throughout the year to further professional knowledge and productivity in using technology. All faculty have a minimum of a desktop or laptop computer (most faculty have both), printer, access to a scanner, and any other specialized equipment required by their curriculum. Faculty, staff, and candidates have the necessary software and hardware to maintain excellence in teaching, learning, research, service, and outreach.
